On January 1, 2015 new hazardous drugs regulations, WAC 296-62-500, et seq. went into effect for all health care settings in Washington. The rule details the requirements for safe handling of chemotherapy and other hazardous drugs which are consistent with National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s (NIOSH) 2004 alert on preventing occupational exposure to antineoplastic and other hazardous drugs as updated in 2014.
The rules specifically require health care settings to develop and implement a written hazardous drugs control program that each employee will be trained to by July 1, 2015.
As your pharmacy partner, we have developed a tool kit to help aid you in the development and implementation of a Hazardous Drug Control Program (HDCP).
